George Daniel Zundel, 84, of Rigby, Idaho died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 in Rigby, Idaho.
He was born May 9, 1920 at Egin Bench, Idaho the son of David Eugene Zundel and Mary Rumsey Zundel. He attended schools in the Egin Bench, Idaho, St. Anthony, Idaho, Willard, Utah and Rigby, Idaho. He graduated from Rigby High School. He was a very good athlete competing in football, basketball and baseball while at Rigby High School. He also competed with a semi-pro baseball team from Rigby. He attended a year at the University of Idaho and Elgin watch making school in Elgin, Illinois.
He married Dona Lemmon on September 2, 1939 in Rigby, Idaho. He owned a jewelry store in Rigby for four years and in Ashton, Idaho for four years. He farmed and ranched in the Drummond and Ashton area for thirty years, and in Roberts for ten years. He was a member of the LDS Church and the American Quarter Horse Association. He trained and raced quarter horses in Rigby and throughout the inter-mountain west. He served in the Army during World War II in Germany and France. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Dona Zundel of Rigby, Idaho. Two daughters, Pat (Bob) Anderson of Rigby, Idaho and Judy (Bill) Post of Boise, Idaho. Two sons, Danny (Penny) Zundel and David (Kay) Zundel, both of Rigby, Idaho. Thirteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a brother and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 24, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Eckersell Memorial Chapel. The family will meet with friends at Eckersell Memorial Chapel on Sunday, January 23, 2005 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday prior to services from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
