Georgia Lynn Madsen Smith, age 65, of Idaho Falls, died Saturday July 6, 2013, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls.
Georgia was born January 29, 1948 in Rigby to Robert E. Madsen and Betty Lindsay Madsen. She was raised and attended schools in Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School. Following her graduation she was employed at Idaho First National Bank in Rigby. She graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, and then pursued her education at BYU in Provo, Utah.
She married Roger N. Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah on November 21, 1973. They were later divorced.
Georgia moved to Salt Lake City where she lived and worked for 17 years. She was employed as a medical transcriptionist at the LDS Hospital and also pursued a career as a floral designer for Celestial Flowers in Salt Lake. Georgia was a talented designer and was always available to lend her talents to the family floral business as well. When her health continued to decline she moved back home to Rigby and became an active member of the community as a volunteer at the Rigby Senior Citizen Center where she handled the copier, the entertainment scheduling, decorations and the monthly newsletter. A victim of Multiple Sclerosis she performed her duties with the aid of her cane and walker. For her efforts she received Citizen of the Year in 1993 by the Rigby Chamber of Commerce. Georgia was a very talented and loved to play cards, board games and was a die-hard bingo player. She touched the lives of many with her laughter and never ending optimistic outlook on life. She was loved by many and touched the lives of everyone she met throughout her life.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. She loved to play the piano and organ and was ward organist of the Lewisville 2nd ward for many years prior to moving from the area. She enjoyed attending the temple with family and friends and the residents of Life Care Center.
She is survived by her sisters Margo A. (Bryan) Dansie Sr. of Rigby, Nancy (Duane) Burton of Syracuse, Utah and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews and her very special aunts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Life Care Center of Idaho Falls for their love and care of Georgia for so many years.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street in Rigby. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
