Gilbert Ray Bates

Gilbert R. Bates of Rigby, Idaho passed away on December 19, 2008, at the age of 83. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Marguerite; his 2 daughters, Merralyn (Roger) Pearson and Pauline (Rick) Robison; his 5 grandchildren, Bret Pearson, Jody Aslett, Steve Pearson, Brian Herndon, and Teri Perez; and his 7 great grandchildren, Bodi, Haydin, Driztin, Tasia, Marisa, Gabi, and Ashelyn. He and his family lived in West Yellowstone, Montana for about 38 years before moving back to Rigby, where he started his life. While in West Yellowstone he worked in gas stations, in the school as a janitor/cook, and finally at the Forest Service for about 27 years. He retired in 1985. He loved fishing, hunting, motorcycling, and snowmobiling. His life revolved around his family, and he had a happy life filled with love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
