Gilbert T. McKinlay, age 90, of Idaho Falls, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at his home. He was born February 3, 1918 at Teton City, a son of James Wausen McKinlay and Dorcas Josephine Meservy McKinlay.
He attended schools in Rexburg, graduating from Madison High School. While in high school he served as the first President of the Madison High School Pep Band. He continued his education at Ricks College, BYU, and Utah State University. He served in the US Army achieving the Rank of Corporal and earned the Expert Rifle M-1. January 14, 1941, he married Emma Elanor Nielsen in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death January 19, 2003. He then married Wanda Ard Jeppesen, March, 2005.
Gilbert was an Elementary School Teacher, Principal, and a School Psychologist.
He was an active member of the LDS church and served four Missions, including a mission to the Northwestern States Mission where he was a President of the Oregon District. He was Rexburg City Clerk for two years and Madison County Clerk for twelve years. Gilbert loved life and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda McKinlay, of Rexburg, a son, Lynn McKinlay, of Iona, two sisters, Ruby Park, of Idaho Falls and Mary Noble, of Phoenix Arizona, and four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Emma and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Kearney 3rd Ward LDS Chapel (1860 Kearney, Idaho Falls, Idaho). The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, at the church. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
