Glen J. Briscoe

December 16, 1928 — September 6, 2016

Glen passed away peacefully at his Rigby home surrounded by loved ones. The 87-year-old gentle man finally got his “ticket” to join his family already waiting for him beyond the veil. He was born December 16, 1928 in Pocatello, Idaho, the eighth of ten children of Franklin Verner Briscoe, Sr. and Eldora Jane Hansen. He grew up on the Tyhee Flats, where at one point the family lived in a railroad boxcar. Glen graduated from Pocatello High School and Idaho State College, graduating with degrees in Math and Physics. He also served an LDS mission in the Central Atlantic States. In college he met Elsie Swann of Banida, Idaho at an LDS Institute dance. They married on July 23, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and eventually moved to Seattle where Glen enrolled in graduate school at the University of Washington, but withdrew from classes to begin his working career back in Idaho. Glen worked as a physicist at what today is the Idaho National Laboratory, earning recognition as one of the leading nuclear safety risk analysts in the world, writing papers and presenting at various international conferences. Glen was active in his community, serving in the PTA and often attending Rigby City Council meetings. He loved his family and gardening and was active in the LDS Church, serving in numerous Ward and Stake and Temple callings. Later in life, Glen and Elsie served in the Peoria, Illinois Mission, loving the opportunity they had to work in Nauvoo. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister and one grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, two brothers, Ray (Ann) of Bountiful, Utah, and Ralph (Lola) of Providence, Utah, seven children, Marie (Ron) Miller, Steven (Denise), Rozan (Jerry) Miller, Jamie (Craig) Olsen, Karen (Drew) Miller, Gordon (Stacey), and LeeAnn (Lonnie) Reeder, 40 grandchildren and 64 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rigby 9th Ward LDS Chapel, 258 W. 1st N., with Bishop Adam Hall officiating. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. Family visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
