Glen C. Scott, 89, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Roberts, passed away July 19, 2013. He was born in Annis, Idaho December 2, 1923, to John R. Scott and Luella Campbell Scott. He was the youngest of 7 children. He was raised in Annis and attended school at Midway, graduating from Midway High School in 1941.
Shortly after graduation, at the age of 19 during World War II, he joined the army. He was stationed in England, France, and Belgium. He was in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, then he was stationed in Germany until he returned home in December of 1945.
He met Kathleen Clark in August of 1946 and they were married in December of 1946 in Boise, Idaho. Two years later in 1950, they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They spent 66 loving years together until Kathleen passed away in June of 2012.
In 1953 they moved to Roberts and ran a grocery store for many years. They raised their two daughter and four sons there. In 1964, Glen and Kathleen along with a partner opened Glenwood Meat Packing in Roberts. In 1978, they moved their business to Idaho Falls and renamed it Glenwood Smoked Products, where his children became his partners and they built it to the successful business it is today. In 1983, they moved to Idaho Falls, where he and Kathleen owned and operated the Corner Trailer Court as well as the fast growing business of Glenwood.
Glen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church callings. He served as president of the Aaronic Priesthood, councilor in the Elders Quorum, twice as scout master, councilor in the Bishopric, before serving as Bishop of the Roberts Ward for 8 years. After being released as Bishop he served for many years on the Stake High Council. In 1994, Glen and Kathleen were called to serve a full time mission in Toronto, Canada. They made many friends there and kept in touch with them after they returned home.
Glen served as Jefferson County Commissioner for many years, before they moved to Idaho Falls. Besides his family, his great loves in life were fishing, boating, snowmobiling, camping, and playing cards with their friends. One of their favorite spots was Lake Powell where they went many times with their friends and family.
Glen is survived by his two daughters, Lynda (Wayne) Keller, Ebony (Terry) French, three sons, Clark (Julene) Scott, Rod (Lynette) Scott, Mitch (Annette) Scott, daughter-in-law Shawna Bennett all from the Idaho Falls area, 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren.
Glen is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, son Blair Scott, five brothers, one sister, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Roberts L.D.S. Chapel. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main Street) in Rigby from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and prior to the services on Thursday from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
