Glenn Forbes Embree

Glenn Forbes Embree, 73, of Rigby, Idaho passed away Saturday, October 7th, 2017 peacefully at his home due to complications from a long-term illness.  Glenn was born in Los Angeles, California January 12th, 1944 to Glenn Virgil Embree and Phyllis Forbes Caspary Embree while his father was serving in China during WWII. He was raised and attended schools in Los Angeles, later he attended and graduated from Orme, a private high school and ranch in Mayer, AZ. He received a B.S. (Geology) from San Diego State University; a M.S. (Geology) from BYU; and a Ph. D. (Geology) from the University of Idaho.  Glenn married Carolyn Cumming January 20th, 1965. They were blessed with three children; Eric, Kirsten, and Lori.  On October 23, 1982, he married Connie Hamilton and was blessed with three additional daughters; Amber, Jennifer, and Kara.  Glenn was baptized into the LDS church February 18th, 1967. He served faithfully in many callings throughout his life.  Glenn was a registered professional geologist with the state of Idaho, a member of the Geological Society of America, and a Geology Professor at Ricks College and BYU-I for 39 years. He also served as the Geology Department Chair and Dean of the College of Physical Science and Engineering while working for BYU-I. He was on the Southeast Idaho Research Institute Board of Directors.  He loved flying and had logged more than 1000 hours of flight time. He enjoyed volunteering for the Legacy Flight Museum and riding in their classic airplanes. He was a skilled photographer and avid outdoorsman. Glenn firmly believed in the Golden Rule and sought to live by it all throughout his life.  He is survived by his wife Connie Embree, son Eric (Lori) Embree, and daughters Kirsten Embree, Lori (Chris) Carr, Amber (Scott) Taylor, Jennifer (Glen) McCullough Evans, and Kara (David) Leighton. He is also survived by 17 adoring grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Phyllis Embree, son-in-law Michael McCullough and a slew of faithful canine companions.  Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at the LaBelle 1st ward LDS chapel 4223 East 528 North Rigby, Idaho. The family will receive friends at the church house from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 13th and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. before the funeral. Burial will be in Annis-Little Butte Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Idaho.
