Golden Virgil Peterson, age 89 of Rigby, passed away Saturday morning, February 15, 2014 in his home.
He was born April 19, 1924 in Garfield, Idaho to John Henry Peterson and Florence Mary Peterson. He attended school in Mudlake and Roberts. He graduated from Ricks College and got his Masters Degree from Arizona State. Golden served a full time LDS mission in the Western States from 1947 to 1949. Later he and his wife served a couples LDS mission in the Billings Montana mission from 1996 to 1997.
Golden served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theater based out of England in 1944 through 1946. On June 29, 1949 he married Lois Aileen Matson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He taught school for 20 years and owned Package Steel Services, a building construction company for metal buildings.
Golden loved the Boy Scout program and has served in many positions from Cub Scout leader to scout master. He attended several national Jamborees and received numerous awards including the Silver Beaver award. He served in many church positions including Sunday School Teacher, Ward Clerk, Counselor in the Bishopric, Family History Consultant, Temple Officiator and a faithful Home Teacher. He was an active member of the VFW and was a member of the Funeral Team. He loved attending family events, farming the family homestead, camping, going on adventures and exploring.
He is survived by his five children, Sue (Kevin) Walker of Rigby, ID, Doyle (Delene) Peterson of Highland, UT, Dan (Judy) Peterson of Fruita, CO, Bryan (Cheryl) Peterson of Provo, UT, and Boyd (Lauri) Peterson of Firth, ID, and his brother Harvey (Annette) Peterson of Salt Lake City, UT.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois Aileen Peterson, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Labelle 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 4223 E 528 N Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., Friday evening at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, and 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
