Gwen Goody Ellsworth, 74, of Lewisville, Idaho, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 27, 1934 in Rigby, Idaho to Frank Fisher Goody and Rhoda Jane Ellis Goody. She was raised in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School. On March 16, 1955 she married Oscar Ellsworth in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had seven children. She worked at Idaho First National Bank, Idahoan Foods, and farmed in the Lewisville area along with her husband, Oscar. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was first called at the age of 13 as stake organist and currently serves as currently serves as the primary pianist. She has served in the Relief Society, Young Women, Sunday School, and Primary organizations. She was a faithful visiting teacher. She was president of the Jefferson County Cowbelles and Rigby Study Club. She was Chairman of the Lewisville Centennial committee. She has served on the Jefferson County Historical Society and Farnsworth Museum board of directors. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She served on the Republican election board.
Gwen’s life revolved around her family and friends. She organized many family activities and reunions. She enjoyed attending activities that her children and grandchildren were involved in. Her grandchildren will miss the weekly card games at her home. Her yard was adorned by dinner plate-sized dahlias and her greenhouse was full of tomatoes, cucumbers and cantaloupe. Gwen initiated “The Club” in 1956. This group of friends has continued socializing for over 50 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Castaldo of Draper, UT; sons, Roger Ellsworth, Terry (Mary) Ellsworth, John (Lori) Ellsworth, and David (Suanne) Ellsworth all of Lewisville; a sister, Linda Jorgensen of Ririe; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sherry Dee; son, Preston Blake; grandson, Kyle T.; and brother, Clair Goody.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, October 24 at the Lewisville Chapel. The family will visit with friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the Lewisville 1st Ward building and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services on Saturdays. Burial will be in Lewisville Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jefferson Historical Society, P.O. Box 284 Rigby, ID 83442.
