Gwen Ellen Griffith

November 30, 1933 — April 13, 2015

Gwen Ellen Briggs Griffith, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully in her home on April 13th, 2015. Her passing will be mourned by all those who loved her. Gwen was born November 30th, 1933 to Isaac Briggs and Lulu M. Jones Briggs in Rigby, Idaho. She was raised with one sister, Yvonne, and her mother. Her father passed away when she was six. Family reunions and gatherings with aunts, uncles, and cousins were some of the highlights of her childhood. Gwen attended Rigby High School and enjoyed Marching Band, Chi Club, FHA, and the Yearbook Staff. She graduated in 1952, and went on to attend Ricks College the following year where she received a Bachelor Degree in teaching Home Economics, with a minor in Art. Gwen was a beautiful artist. Gwen was among the last class to graduate as a four year college from Ricks. Gwen went on to teach Home Economics at Rigby Junior High and Midway for two years. She then attended BYU Provo and received her FHA Degree. Gwen served an LDS mission to the North Central States mission to Minneapolis, Minnesota. After her mission she worked in Salt Lake City for Walgreens, and later for LaBais Drapery Shop. Gwen was set up on a blind date with Paul Griffith from Dugway Proving Grounds. Gwen & Paul courted for over four years, and were married in the home of her mother on November 9th, 1965. Later they were sealed to each other on August 18, 2004 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Gwen went on to have a beautiful family, two sons, two daughters, and thirteen grandchildren. She loved her family with all of her heart and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Gwen was an active member of the LDS Church. She served faithfully and diligently in several church callings in Primary, and Relief Society. Gwen was a great example to all who knew her. Gwen loved nature and being outside planting flowers and trees, and working in the garden. She was a great cook, and seamstress. Everything she touched was made beautiful from her family to her home to people’s lives. She is survived by her children Curtis (Pam) Griffith, Eilene (Merrill) Page, Josie (Rick) Bishop, and Scott (Lisa) Griffith, 8 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Griffith, and her parents. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Rigby 12th Ward LDS Chapel, 602 Sundance in Rigby. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street Rigby, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery. “You are an angel mother here on earth…one of our very best friends. Well done our Beloved Precious Mother. You have loved and served us well and our Father in Heaven. We are proud of you and He is proud of you. We love you forever.”
