Harold R. Furness, 87, of Terreton, passed away Friday, May 03, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Firth. He was born June 19, 1925 in Sugar City, Idaho to Tobias Furness and Lucy Ricks Furness. He was raised and attended schools in Sugar City, and graduated from Sugar City High School. Harold served in the US Navy during World War II. On December 15, 1949, he married Mary Ann Lenz in Ashton, Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with 5 daughters and 1 son. He farmed in the Terreton area throughout his life, and was an owner, along with his brother Rex in Furness Brothers Feed Company in Terreton. Harold was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served in many church callings, but he most enjoyed his many years as a Stake Missionary. He was well read in the gospel. He also enjoyed studying history and government. Harold was a sports enthusiast; he was active in high school sports during his younger years, enjoyed fishing, skiing and golf and was an avid BYU Fan. He also appreciated the beauty around him and enjoyed going for rides through the country. He is survived by his children, Mauna (Craig) Young, of South Jordan, Utah, Luann (Daniel) Hale, of Blackfoot, Dallas (Tamara) Furness, of Terreton, Cloeen (Kevin) Downs, of Firth, Amy Furness, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Laura (Blair) Mickelson, of Melba, sister, Joyce Luke, of Sugar City, 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Furness, Parents, brothers, Jay Furness and Rex Furness and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Terreton LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the stake center. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
