Harry Dee Groom

Harry Dee Groom, age 77, of Rigby, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Harry was born March 29, 1938 in Idaho Falls, a son to Kenneth William Groom and Thelma Eliza Stoddard Groom. He attended schools in Rigby and graduated from Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls. While in school he enjoyed music and played the Trombone. He also enjoyed sports and dancing. He attended and graduated from Ricks College. He then attended BYU in Provo, Utah graduating with a degree in Math & Science. On August 9th 1963 he married Barbara Anthony in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He taught Math at Rigby Jr. High School for two years. He then returned to BYU and earned his Master’s in Psychology. He worked as a Psychologist in Idaho Falls School District 91 for 30 years and Bonneville School District 93 for just over 6 years. He farmed in the Garfield area all of his life. Harry was an active member of the LDS Church. He served a mission to Brazil from 1958 to 1961. He also served as the Stake Young Men’s President, taught Sunday school and Priesthood Classes, served on the Rigby Stake High Council, was a counselor in the Rigby Stake Presidency, and served as High Priest Group Leader. He also served on the Stake High Council and as a Bishop at BYU Idaho. He served as the President of the Harrison Water Canal. He enjoyed his cattle, fishing and snow skiing. He especially enjoyed his family. His moto in life and on the farm was “We are raising children not crops.” He is survived by his wife Barbara Groom of Garfield, four daughters; Diana (Stephen) Grover of Rigby, Donna (Alex) Huxford of Cedar City, Utah, Natalie (Torrey) Walker of West Jordan, Utah and Deborah (David) Prince of Idaho Falls, three sons; David (Melissa) Groom of Orem, Utah, Richard (Raquel) Groom of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Robert (Natalie) Groom of Rigby, a sister Betty Miles of Rigby, thirty three grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Gordon Groom. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 16th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garfield 1st Ward LDS Church 71 North 3700 East, Rigby, with Bishop Marlow Blanchard officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Garfield Church. Burial will be in Ucon Cemetery.
