Harry A. Munns

Henry “Harry”Alvin Munns, 73, of Rexburg, died Wednesday, March 10, 2009. He was born September, 30, 1935, in Lyman, to Arthur James Munns and Janet Clements Munns. He attended Lyman Elementary, and graduated from Madison High School. During high school he was active in FFA and Track. On November 23, 1955, he married Vonda Gae Torgerson, in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. He has worked in farming and ranching and as a water master. He was a partner in Rexburg Livestock Auction with his brothers. He also worked at Roger Brothers and the sugar factory during the winters. Harry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions including dance director, home teacher, in the Elders Quorum, as Bishop of the Lyman 1st Ward, high counselor, ward missionary, as a humanitarian missionary in Rexburg along with his wife, Vonda, and most recently as a Sunday school teacher at the Madison County Jail. He team roped, and won 2nd place in chariot racing for 2 years in a row at world finals in Pocatello, along with his brother Keith. Harry considered his most important job to be that of husband, dad, grandpa and friend; he loved his family and made sure they knew it by the teasing he gave them. He is survived by his wife Vonda Gae Munns, of Lyman, daughters, Sherri (Kevin) Murray, of Ammon, Jana (Lynn) Nelson, of Archer, sons, Russell (Linda) Munns, of Archer, Paul (Tammy) Munns, of Kennewick, WA, brothers, Delas (Elaine) Munns, Merlin “Jim” (Marie) Munns, both of Archer, Lyrin “Pete”(Bonnie) Munns, of Salem, Lynn (Mary) Munns, of Lyman, Keith (Ruth) Munns, of Archer, 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Janet Ann Hansen, brother-in-law, Calvin Hansen, and a great-grandson, Keagan Murray. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Lyman LDS Chapel. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., Rigby, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, prior to services at the church. Donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Aid. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
