Helen Mabel Browning, 93 of Rigby, died Saturday, February 22, 2014 at her home.
She was born July 27, 1920 in Shelley, Idaho to William Wesley Mitchell and Olive Myrtle Betty Mitchell. She was raised and attended schools in Shelley, graduating from Shelley High School in 1938. On January 26, 1941 she married Charles A. Tracy in Shelley, Idaho. He preceded her death. On July 11, 1948 she married Ralph Shipley he preceded her in death. On October 20, 1979 she married Dale Browning in Rigby, Idaho.
Helen worked at Idaho Fresh Pak, Taylor Produce and for Broulim’s Grocery Store in the Deli. From the end of WWII until the late 1960’s she was an active member of the American Legion. She loved cooking, sewing, camping, and fishing. Above all else, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Her last days were made as pleasant as possible by Encompass Hospice; the family extends their sincere appreciation to them.
She is survived by husband J Dale Browning of Rigby, daughters, Sandra (Kent) Spidell, of Spokane, WA, Janet (Jim Chesak) Moore, of Rigby, step-daughter Karen (Jerry) Sorensen, of Idaho Falls, son, Gary (JoLynn) Shipley, of Rigby, step-sons, Mark (Jerry Lee) Browning, of Homedale, Stan (Sandra) Browning, of Pocatello, sisters, Betty Benjamin, of Idaho Falls, Mary (Hank) Brown, of Soda Springs, brother, Norman “Duke” Mitchell, of Choteau, MT, 4 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Charles Tracy, Ralph Shipley, brother, Russell Mitchell, Sister, Norma Owen, and step-grandson Eric Hurley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday February 27, 2014 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Memorial Contributions may be made in her honor to Disabled American Veterans Organization, The Veterans Hospital or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
