Helen Hammond Butikofer, 76, of Menan, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Helen was born on November 7, 1930, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Irus Benjamin Hammond and Lila Nancy Call Hammond. She attended schools in St. Anthony and graduated from St. Anthony High School. Following high school Helen attended Idaho State College in Pocatello, Idaho, and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She was employed as a secretary at Idaho Title and Trust Co., Mikami Brothers Potatoes, and the Idaho Falls Hospital.
She married Reed Linck Butikofer on November 7, 1955, at St. Anthony, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings including primary president and in the family history library in recent years.
Helen was a warm and compassionate person who shared her time and talents generously with all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking and baking, reading, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, collecting wildflowers, and playing games with family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will hold a special place in the hearts of those lives she touched.
Survivors include her husband, Reed Butikofer; children, Sharyl (Henry) St. Laurent of Fredericksburg, Va., Tamara (Ronald) Kiehn of Elko, Nv., Brett (Suzanne) Butikofer of Firth, Id., Col. Mitchel H (Leslie) Butikofer of Brazilia, Brazil., and Todd Butikofer of Menan; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Jay B. Hammond and Trudy (Gary) Potter. She was preceded in death by brothers Calvin C. Hammond and Wayne C. Hammond and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, at the Menan Stake Center, 698 North 3600 East. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Menan Stake Center and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to services. Interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
