Cristen Herbert “Herb” Christensen, 94, of Rigby, passed away on October 24, 2012 at his home in Rigby of natural causes.
Herb was born on April 22, 1918 to Christian Peter Christensen and Mary Elizabeth Rollison Christensen. He was raised in Carey and Rigby. The family moved to Rigby when Herb was ready to start first grade. He graduated from Rigby High School. On FebHe married Maxine Johnson in Dillon Montana on February 23, 1946; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed to have 66 years together.
His family farmed and raised sheep in Carey Idaho. Herb worked in the Conservation Corp for 6 months after he graduated from high school. He served in the National Guard and U.S. Army in the Solomon Islands. Herb owned his own business and plastered homes, hospitals and churches all throughout Idaho. He was able to out-fish any two legged man or 4 legged critter. Fly fishing was his middle name and he was good at it. Frequent fishing and hunting trips with dear friends the Kites, Caywoods, Calls and Hanson’s were standard for the weekends.
Herb was the last of a hardy breed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine, sister, Anna Pearl, brothers Ernest, Carl, Erick and nephew Brent.
He is survived by his brothers-in-law, Bill Willes of Vernal, Utah, Ronald (Linda) Johnson, of Ponchatoula, LA and Lynn (Kama) Johnson, of Rigby, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
