Irene Ellis Thomson, 87 of Sugar City Idaho passed away at Eastern Idaho Reginal Medical Center in Idaho Falls due to a stroke on Wednesday July 23, 2025.
She was born in Rexburg, Idaho on August 21, 1937, to Vilda Rebecca Hall and Lewis Alexander Ellis. She spent her childhood in Driggs, Minnesota and Washington.
The story goes that she met Tim Thomson in 1957 at a dance at Ricks College. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on September 2, 1960. They added to their union 4 sons and a daughter, Kevin, Steven, Barry, Kim and Terrell (Scott).
Most of her life she loved to be home. She also had a few jobs here and there. She worked at the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital for a number of years as well as Artco in Rexburg.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Wherever she was called within the church she was glad to serve. She served as a primary teacher, scouts, Sunday school teacher and even a square dance director. Her favorite job was working at the Rexburg Temple. She had a love for crocheting, picnicking, tending to the home, sewing, square dancing, playing the piano and guitar, singing and reading.
She is survived by Kevin Tim Thomson (Malinda) of Rexburg Idaho. Barry Lane Thomson, and Kimberly Hiner (Daren) of Rexburg Idaho, and Terrell Scott Thomson (Nicole) of Terreton Idaho. She was greatly blessed with 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Tim B. Thomson, parents Vilda and Lewis Ellis, a brother Dell and a son Steven Thomson.
Funeral Services will be held Monday July 28, 2025, at 11:00am at the Sugar City Stake Center (25 West 3rd South Sugar City, Idaho 83448). The family will receive friends Sunday evening July 27, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby (101 West Main Street Rigby, Idaho 83442) and again on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the Sugar City Stake Center prior to the Service. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
