On the early morning of August 12, 2022, J Lyle Thompson passed away at his home in Rigby. He was rushed to EIRMC to try and revive him but it failed. His heart finally failed him at the age of 80, just short of 81 years old. Lyle was born at his home in St. Anthony, Idaho on October 16, 1941 to Clem L Thompson and Jeneal Luella Josephson. He attended schools in St. Anthony graduating from high school and attending one year at Ricks College. He served a mission starting in North Dakota Mission and was transferred to the California Mission due to health problems.

He married Barbara Ann Flitton of Rigby, ID and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 9, 1963. Lyle did many different things to find out what he wanted to do in life. First, he was a meat cutter, then a carpenter with his dad, sold Life insurance, sold pre-built house packages, and for 25 years he owned and operated Blue Ribbon Carpet Cleaning. At the time of his death, they owned and operated Legacy Duplication for about 33 years. He lived most of his married life in Rigby with the exception of four years in Rexburg ID.

Lyle worked with his wife in the Boy Scout program for over 31 years. He earned the Silver Beaver Award; he was a Boy Scout leader, district leader and council leader. He also served in several bishoprics as executive secretary and taught Elders Quorum classes for many years. Lyle served eleven years in the Idaho Falls Temple. He loved to golf when able, and camping, reading and painting art. Lyle had his first heart attack in 1984, which left him with many following surgeries and health problems.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Rigby, daughter Nancy Ann Thompson of Bakersfield CA, son Richard Lyle (Vicky) Thompson of Lehi UT, son Blake Alan (Annette) Thompson of Saratoga Springs UT, son Greg Merrill (Kirstine) Thompson of Rigby ID, and daughter Laura Ann Long of Reno NV.

Lyle is also survived by fifteen grandchildren.
