Jack L. Riggs

July 27, 1929 — May 9, 2015

Our family is humbled to sum up the amazing life of a truly extraordinary man, Jack Riggs who was loved by all who met him. Jack married his high school sweetheart and first love Joyce Strain on June 2, 1950 in Ashton, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple where the family was sealed for time and eternity. They had a beautiful life together for nearly 65 years. They have three children Jeff Riggs (Pat Davis), Jill Saddler and Julie Hodson; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His beloved wife Joyce and family will miss him beyond measure. Jack was born in Teton City, Idaho on July 27, 1929 to Albert and Iris Riggs. Jack returned to his Heavenly Father on May 9, 2015 at the age of 85. He had eight siblings; brothers, Don and Robert Riggs, and sisters, Virginia Riggs, LaPreal Carlson, Marcia Anderson, Donna Fay York, Mary Christiansen and Nancy Hillman. Jack enjoyed being with his family. He spent many years working with the youth. He was a confidante and friend to so many. He really loved his red Ford truck, horses and horse trading, his community, going for beautiful drives with his wife, building bird houses and wishing wells, Diet Pepsi and ice cream. Jack was ambitious and self-motivated. He was awarded a football scholarship to Ricks College. He was in the U.S. Air Force and served his country in the Korean War. He was employed by Bemis Bag Company in Idaho Falls for over 25 years where he retired as Manager. After retirement he was approached by Kroger, Markon and a few others to work as an independent consultant inspecting potatoes. You can’t keep a good man down, he worked until December 2014. Jack enjoyed raising and showing horses. He received his judge’s card and judged horse shows throughout the Western states and also at numerous county fairs. Jack loved the time he spent in service to his church and considered it an honor to give of his time day or night. He had numerous church callings which included serving as Bishop, High Councilman, Counselor in Bishoprics, Temple ordinance worker and many other callings. He served in his home ward, BYU Idaho Wards and Young Singles Branch. Jack touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be remembered for his inspiring leadership, honesty and selfless acts of kindness. He did everything whole heartedly and was admired and respected. He blessed us with his compassion, humor and listening ear. Jack left us a legacy of life lessons which he taught by example. We know true Christ-like love because each day of our lives we received it from him. He made many special life-long friendships. Thanks for the amazing memories, you will forever be in our hearts.
