James Marshall Hagen

March 2, 1924 — October 11, 2005

James Marshall Hagen, 81, of Rigby, died Tuesday October 11, 2005 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Jim was born March 2, 1924 in Coeur D Alene, Idaho a son of Charles Bernestine Hagen and Jennie Holt Hagen. He was raised and attended school in Coeur D Alene and graduated from Coeur D Alene High School. He attended Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and Washington State University graduating with a PHD. in Clinical Psychology. He married Ruth Austinson in 1947 at Ada, Minnesota. She preceded him in death in 1998. Jim married Frances Garvey Hobbs in Roanoke, Virginia on October 28, 1999. Jim served with the United States Air Force during WWII as a pilot and navigator. He was an active life member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Big Brothers Association. Jim was the chief of Staff at the V.A. Psychiatric Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia and had a private practice for several years. He had served as an expert witness for Federal Government. Jim enjoyed fishing, golf, and traveling throughout the World. Jim is survived by his wife Frances Hagen of Rigby, Idaho; Daughter Kristine Benois of Roanoke, Virginia, Heidi (Don) Prentiss of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Step daughters, Bonnie Barnard of Camby, Oregon, Paula (Larry) McGee of Russellville, Arkansas; Step-sons David (Marcy) Hobbs of Rigby, Idaho and Charles Hydes of Midland, Texas; one brother Martin Hagen of Coeur D Alene, Idaho. Seven grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ruth, sister Clara and brother Bert. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family desires contributions be sent to the St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
