Janet Green Jensen

September 4, 1942 — September 4, 2017

Janet G. Jensen, 74, of Rexburg, passed away Monday Sep. 4, 2017 at her home after a short but difficult battle with cancer. She was born September 19, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Wilbur and Bertha Green.    Janet served in the North German LDS Mission. Among the wonderful people that she met while in Germany was a farm boy from Idaho named Don Jensen. When she arrived home from Germany, he was waiting at the airport with flowers.    Janet and Don were married June 2, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Rexburg where they raised six children, Julie Corr of Salt Lake City, Utah; Brian (Deserie) Jensen of Provo, Utah; Dennis Jensen of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mike Jensen of  Rexburg; Eric (Alisha) Jensen of  Dunkirk, Maryland; and Katrina (Antonio) Uriarte of Falls Church, Virginia. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.   When Janet was expecting her fourth child (Mike) she was hit by a car and injured her hip. While that accident caused her great physical pain over the years, it brought the joy of having a special needs child into our family. Mom and Mike had a special relationship and her love and concern for him lasted to the end of her life.   After her own kids were all in school, Janet went back to school herself to become a teacher. She graduated from Ricks College and Brigham Young University with degrees in elementary education. She taught 3rd grade at Kinghorn Elementary and Hardwood Elementary schools in Rigby, Idaho.    Janet really enjoyed being outside and seeing the beauties of nature. She especially loved Mirror Lake in the Uintah Mountains of Utah, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, and Jasper National Park in Canada. She was happiest sitting around a campfire or helping to pack the tent trailer for another adventure.     Janet was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout her life, she served others as a missionary, relief society president, primary worker, teacher, and as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples.     She is survived by her brothers, Tom and Ken Green, and her six children. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Carter Jensen, Rachael Jensen, Kirsten Jensen, Shannon Jensen, Stewart Jensen, Christian Jensen, Patrick Jensen, Liliana Uriarte, and Samuel Uriarte.     She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents, Wilbur and Bertha Green, her sister Bonnie Chadwell, her brothers Bill and George Green, and two granddaughters Katya and Ruby Uriarte.   Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9 at the Rexburg North Stake Center, 314 E 2nd N Rexburg, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8 and 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, also at the Rexburg North Stake Center.
