Janis "Jan" Elaine Wheeler

February 7, 1935 — March 17, 2016

Janis “Jan” Wheeler, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at her home, in Terreton, she was 81. Jan was born on February 9, 1935 in Buffalo, New York to Stanly Scurlock and Lorna Yox Scurlock. She was raised in South Wales, New York until the age of 10. The family then moved to East Aurora, New York where she attended and graduated from E.A. High School. She met her husband-to-be; Alfred Douglas Wheeler at the age of 14. Alfred served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and on October 17, 1953 they were married in Marrila, Eire County, New York. They had 41 years together, before Alfred passed away. In 1957 their son Thomas was born. From the late 60’s to early 80’s; Jan and Alfred worked together at Fisher Price Toys. In 1983, they opened Wheelers General Store in Wales Center, New York. In 1993 they retired and moved to Terreton, Idaho to be near their son and his family. Jan is survived by her son, Thomas and daughter-in-law, Mary, grandchildren, Kimberly Roth, and Jim (Gina) Wheeler, great-grandchildren, Shelbie Roth, Cameron Roth, Christipher Wheeler, Koltin Wheeler, sister-in-law, Kate (Arnie) Stone, brother-in-law, Jim (Diane) Wheeler, George (Carol) Wheeler, Warren Wheeler, and Carl Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alfred, brothers-in-law, Wellington, Robert, Dick, Frank, and Danny Wheeler, and sisters-in-law, Mary, Jackie and Karen Wheeler. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Terreton LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Memorial contributions may be made to Onesource Hospice, 3544 E. 17th St. #201, Ammon, ID 83406.
