Jay Melvin Peterson, age 79, of Lyman, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at his home. Jay was born June 23, 1923, at Lyman, Idaho a son of Homer Peterson and Luella Arnold Peterson. He married Anita Weekes May 5, 1945 at Dillon, Montana. Their marriage was later
solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Jay began working for Burgraff Construction in
1948 as an oiler and worked his way up to be superintendent of the Asphalt Plant. He retired in
1986 after 38 years with the company. In September of 1989 he received a kidney transplant.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served as the Sunday School Superintendent, in the Elders Quorum Presidency and in the High Priest Group as Secretary and Assistant. He was active in temple work. He was an avid coin collector and rock hound and enjoyed polishing rocks, camping, fishing, picking huckleberries, family reunions and having his family with him. Hall of Boise, Idaho Jennifer Hall of Pocatello, Idaho Great Grandchildren Kyle Peterson, Kailee Peterson, Kailoni Peterson and Alex Hall. He was preceded in death by parents, three brothers, two sisters and one daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lyman 1st Ward
LDS Chapel with Bishop Bradley McCurdy officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday March11, 2003 at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 West Main Street, Rigby) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery, Archer, Idaho under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family express appreciation to all the doctors for the care extended since the Kidney Transplant.
