Jabez Dean “J.D.” Ritchie, 81, of Rigby, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born February 22, 1931, in Idaho Falls to Jabez Dean Ritchie and Blanche Ann Johnson Ritchie. He was raised and attended schools in Iona and Idaho Falls. On September 27, 1954 he married Elaine Lindholm in Iona; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1964. He lived in the Idaho Falls and Iona area throughout his life.
J.D. is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he was a High Priest and served as a Ward Mission Leader. He was also served in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He enjoyed the outdoors and served as campground host at Kelly Island Campground. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the state of Idaho.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Lindholm Ritchie, of Rigby, daughters, Suzanne (Shane) Walker, of Eagle, Julie (Tom) Perry, of Boise, Janece (Derick) Moore, of Idaho Falls, sons, Dean Ritchie, of Victor James, (Melissa) Ritchie, of Idaho Falls, sisters, Jackie Stegner, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Emma (Mike) Ashton, of Idaho Falls, brothers, Tom (Dorris) Ritchie, and Chick (Gloria) Heileson, both of Iona, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Luana Smith, and grandsons, Jarom Cook and Barton Walker
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Garfield 5th Ward LDS Chapel, on the corner of 3900 E. and County Line Road, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
