Karen Jean Scott, 69, of Monteview, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at EIRMC.
She was born January 14, 1940, in Brigham City, Utah to William Mirle Hawkes, and Pauline Hansen Hawkes. She spent her early years in Garden Valley, and while in the 5th grade her family moved to New Sweden. She attended O.E. Bell Jr. High and Idaho Falls High and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Virgina. She married Stanley K. Scott, December 20, 1957, in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. They spent the first years together in Germany while Stan served in the US Army. They returned to Shelley in 1960, and then moved to Mud Lake in 1968 and to Monteview in 1974.
Jean had many loves in her life, her family was one, but she also enjoyed her artwork; drawing, painting and sculpting, were a few of her favorites. She was an accomplished seamstress; she collected porcelain dolls, many of them made by her. She wrote many stories, poetry, and was a writer for the Jefferson Star. She was a co-founder of the Sagebrush Theater, performing in many productions, and continued to perform in community productions thereafter. Jean loved working with children and after all her children were in school she went to work at West Jefferson School District in the ESL/Title 1 programs. She spent many years working with students in high school helping them graduate; this became one of her great loves. While teaching she attended Ricks College and received a Title 1 certificate, enabling her to continue to work with the students she loved.
She was a member of the LDS Church, and served in many positions.
She is survived by her husband, Stan Scott, of Monteview; children, Kent (Leah) Scott, of Gooding, ID, Ann (Kortny) Albertson, of Roberts, ID, Steve (Melinda) Scott, of Logan, UT, Bill (Stacie) Scott of Ammon, ID, Dwight (Cindy) Scott, of Terreton,ID, John (Perla) Scott, of Monteview, ID, Melissa (Brent) Taylor, of Rigby, ID, and Andrew (Kristie) Scott, of Hamer, ID; 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grand children.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the Monteview LDS Chapel, with Bishop Waid Stoneberg, conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, and prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., both at the church. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
