Jerry Don Burtenshaw, 81, of Rigby, Idaho passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Idaho Falls, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Jerry was born February 5, 1933 in Shelton, Idaho to John Harris and Lottie Marie Burtenshaw. He grew up and attended Shelton Buck and graduated from Rigby High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He married Karen Ellis November 14, 1958 In the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Later he worked at the INEL site for 40 years and he retired in 1995. He served as a counselor in the Clark Ward Bishopric and on the High Council for the Ririe Stake.
Jerry raised horses and cattle and he farmed on the side. He enjoyed training, riding and buying horses and mules. He also enjoyed old tractors and antiques. He was always looking for a good deal or a good trade. You could always find him in “his” favorite chair watching a good ballgame or show on TV. His grandkids and his kids were his life and they adored him. In his retirement years, Jerry and his family spent many wonderful times at their family cabin at Last Chance in Island Park.
Jerry is survived by his wife Karen Burtenshaw; son Mickey Dean (Patsy) Burtenshaw of Rigby, Idaho; four daughters Lori (Randy) Drake of Lewisville, Idaho; Jan (Rod) Furniss of Rigby, Idaho; Jodi (Richard) Howard of Rigby; Mitzi (Syd) Cordingley of Rigby; sister Doris (Bob) Cox of Rigby; brother Duane (Enid) Burtenshaw of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Marie Schultz, Beth Cooper and JoAnn Scholes.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday May 1, 2014 at the Clark Rudy Ward, 198 North 4300 East in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church.
