Jesse Boyd Leavitt

Jesse Boyd Leavitt, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 1, 2017, at the Gables of Ammon. Boyd was born on June 1, 1934 in Rigby, Idaho a son of Jesse and Alta Lemmon Leavitt. He was raised in and attended school in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School. He continued his education at Ricks College where he received his bachelor’s degree. Boyd married Sheryn DaBell on July 8, 1953 in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in the Young Men’s Presidency, as Rigby Stake Executive Secretary and as the Bishop in The Toms River Ward in Toms River, New Jersey. Boyd worked as a part time police officer in Rigby and with the Idaho State Police for the I.N.E.L. in Arco, ID and GPU Nuclear in Tom's River NJ. Boyd is survived by his daughters, Susan (Russell) Blank of Snellville, Georgia, Laurie Pounder (Gary) of Salem, Oregon; sons, Gary (Lisa) Leavitt of North Salt Lake City, Utah, Ronald Boyd (Kathleen) Leavitt of Pocatello, his brother-in-law Jerry (Christy) DaBell of Sandy, UT; sister, LaRee VanTrek of Boise; brother, Reed Leavitt of Layton, Utah; and his 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sheryn, sister Lorna Bell, brother DeLoy Lemmon and sister-in-law Alona DaBell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby 4th Ward Chapel (401 W. 1st S. Rigby). The family will visit with friends on Friday April 7, 2017 at 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Funeral Home and prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
