Jessie R. Nield, age 81, of Ririe, Idaho, passed away on May 18, 2005, at the Rexburg Nursing Center in Rexburg, Idaho. Mom was born December 13, 1923, in Riverdale, Utah, the fourth of eleven children of Walter Edward and Lillian Rose Jespersen Bingham. Her family worked together raising watermelons, cantaloupes, and tomatoes and they were noted for being the “singingest” family in Utah. She graduated from Weber High School in Ogden, Utah.
She married John C. Moss on August 18, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Ririe and were blessed with a son, Brent. Johnny served in the US Army Air Corps and was shot down over Berlin, Germany, on February 3, 1945. On June 2, 1947, Mom married Ralph P. Nield at his parent’s home in Lower Poplar just east of Ririe. Together they raised eight children on the family farm west of Ririe. Mom was a member of the LDS Church and served as a visiting teacher, Primary president, Relief Society president, and in the Stake Relief Society.
Mom always had a song in her heart and was well known for her beautiful alto voice. She blessed many lives as she shared her musical talents at funerals, church programs, and community events. She enjoyed singing with the Chansonettes for 28 years. Mom could coax a flower or plant to grow just about anywhere! Sometimes, after a long hard day on the farm, Dad could be heard so say, “That’s one of the prettiest bunch of flowers I’ve ever seen!” But Mom’s heart was mostly in her mothering. In our weakness she comforted, and in our success she rejoiced. Her time was our time.
We, as husband and children, are grateful for the gift of life so freely given, the sacrifices, and the hard work. From meals in the kitchen to music around the piano, through missions and marriages, back to our own grandmas and grandpas, and ahead to the grandchildren and great grandchildren, we say thank you, thank you, thank you. The intent of your heart was good.
