Jessie Ann Smith, 77, of Rigby, formerly of Redondo Beach California, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012, at The Gardens Assisted Living Center in Rigby.
She was born December 2, 1934, in LaBelle, Idaho to Carl Edward Dodge and Della Rohrwer Dodge Gray. She was attended schools in Menan and Rigby. On June 2, 1953, she married James Dale Smith in Rigby; to this union they added 3 daughters and 2 sons. They later divorced. She worked as a waitress for Walkers Café in Rigby, and then in 1957 she moved to Redondo Beach California where she continued working as a waitress at La Coco’s, The Seafarer and The San Franciscan. After she retired in 2002 she moved back to Rigby where she lived until the time of her passing.
Jessie loved spending time with her family; she enjoyed movies, books, board games and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughters, Terri Kay Grooms, of Lawndale, California, Sara Jeanne (Randy) Lehnberg, of Long Beach, California, sons, James Leland Smith, of Boise, Idaho, Carl William Smith, of Bull Head, City, Arizona, a sister, Alice Marie Gray, of Blackfoot, Idaho, brothers, Bill (Joyce) Dodge, of Dubois, Idaho, Carl Dennis (Vicki) Dodge, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Wayne (Connie) Dodge, of Idaho, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Joy Llyn Harmon and a grandson, John.
The family will hold a celebration of Jessie’s life at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
