Jesus Varela, age 73, passed away at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, Friday, October 30, 2020. Jesus was born in Colonia Garcia, Chihuahua, Mexico, February 1, 1947 a son to Jose Varela and Manuela Hernandez. He was raised in and attended schools in Mexico. He married Juana Tena May 18, 1969 in Colonia Pacheco, Mexico. He immigrated to the United States in 1987 where he worked in agriculture for Clyde Beck Farms for 15 years, for Lyle Taylor Farms working with cattle and for Webster Potato Warehouse in Rigby. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and going to casinos. He is survived by his wife Juana Varela of Rigby, his daughters, Belma Cardenas (Ramon) of Rigby, Chela Varela (Horacio) of Willcox, Arizona and Angelica Varela Galaz (Ricardo) of Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico and sons Carlos Varela (Judith) of Rigby, and Alberto Varela of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Sisters, Emma Mendoza (Alfonso) Of Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Rosa Venegas (Hector), Gloria Hortencia Bustamante (Rogelio), Socorro Caballero (Fransisco) and Ofelia Varela of Casa Grande, Arizona and brothers, Alfredo Varela (Candelaria) of Howard Lake, Minnesota and Javier Varela (Sandra) of Hobbs, New Mexico, twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Toño Varela a Brother Reynaldo Varela and his parents Jose Varela and Manuela Hernandez. The family will meet at Eckersell Memorial Chapel for a Rosary Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. and have services Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be at Grant Central Cemetery under direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
Due to Covid-19 and concerns for the health of the public and family, social distancing and wearing of masks will be requested at the funeral home for the Rosary and at the Church for the service with a limit of 50 people in the funeral home and at the church at any one time.
