Joseph Robert Ringel, 91 of Rigby, died Thursday, September 08, 2016 at his home.
Joseph was born May 25, 1925 in Paris, Idaho to Frederick Ludwig Ringel Jr. and Melvina Charlotte Price Ringel. He was raised and attended schools in Paris, graduating from Fielding High School. He enlisted in the US Navy and served overseas during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, then Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology. He continued his education at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and graduated with a master’s degree in natural sciences. On September 18, 1946, he married Eileen Passey in Paris, Idaho; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple on November 5, 1947. They were blessed with 3 daughters; Rexine, Tamara, and Teena, and 2 sons; Merlyn and Kevin. Eileen preceded him in death. On December 9, 2006, he married Verdene Wells in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple.
Joseph taught math and science in Ashton, Idaho for 10 years, and at Soda Springs High School for 22 years until his retirement in 1986. Joseph was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Logan LDS Temple for 10 years, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for 14 years and also served a fulltime mission to the Utah, Salt Lake City, Temple Square Mission.
He is survived by his wife Verdene Ringel, of Rigby; daughters, Rexine (Bill) Jensen, of Sandy, UT, Tamara (Mark) Luthi, of Roy, UT; Teena (Rodney) Priestley, of Hyde Park, UT; sons, Merlyn Robert (Lori) Ringel, of Menan, ID, Kevin L (Cathy) Ringel, of Rigby, ID; 22 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eileen, 4 sisters, and 5 brothers and a daughter-in-law, Donette Ringel
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Rigby South Stake Center, 71 N. 3800 E., Rigby. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Paris, Idaho Cemetery following funeral services. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
