John Ray Burnside

January 13, 1925 — January 18, 2008

Ray Burnside, age 83, of Rigby, died Friday, January 18, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Ray was born January 13, 1925, at Driggs, Idaho a son of John and LeVon Knight Burnside. He attended Rexburg School and Madison High School. He married Donna Jean Brunson in Rexburg, December 27, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He is a member of the LDS Church and for the past 37 years served as ward greeter. He owned his own truck and hauled Hay, Grain, Wood and Rock. Later in life he hauled firewood and potatoes to neighbors. He was well known for his Dutch oven fried chicken cooking and his potato salad and with his family served at many church activities and family reunions. He was a perfectionist who loved his family, hard work, fishing, the outdoors, digging potatoes and making peanut butter popcorn. Survivors include: his wife Donna Jean Burnside of Rigby, two daughters: Sharry (John G.) Cuevas of Rigby, Lesa Dawn (Stoney) Tucker of Rigby, two sons: Gordon Ray (June) Burnside of Evanston, Wyoming and John Allan (Kathy) Burnisde of Rigby, one brother Lloyd (Ruth) Burnside of Idaho Falls, 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, one son and an infant daughter. Services will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2008. at 1:00 p.m. in the LaBelle 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Rod Furniss officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery. The family would appreciate contributions to the Ray Burnside Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank.
