John Grant Bybee

April 21, 1912 — May 24, 2006

John Grant Bybee, returned to his Heavenly Father on May 24, 2006, after a short illness. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Grant was born April 21, 1912 at Annis, Idaho to John and Nettie Chadwick Bybee. He was the third of four children. He grew up and attended school at Annis and Rigby where he was active in football and track. Grant married his high school sweetheart Afton Fisher on March 15, 1935 in Annis. They built their home on the family farm and lived there until 2004 when they moved to Idaho Falls to be closer to their daughter. Their marriage was blessed with two children. On November 29, 1962, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Afton passed away in June 2004 and then he moved to Fairwinds Living Center. Grant loved to work the land and enjoyed watching his crops grow. He also worked for Clement Produce and Idaho Fresh Pak. He was a charter member of the Jefferson County Posse and was an accomplished horseman. He rode his last horse at age 90. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed being of service to others. He served as a Dance Director, as a Sunday School Counselor, Home Teacher and Secretary of the High Priest Group. His hobbies were raising and riding horses, fishing, reading, boating and snowmobiling with his family. His greatest joys in life were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting with old and new friends. Grant is survived by a son, Aldon Lynn (Marilyn) Bybee, Sedalia, Co.; his daughter, Ronna Lee (Garold) Sommers, Idaho Falls; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Bluford Bybee of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, his parents and brothers, Lloyd and Cecil. A special thanks for the loving care given by Dr. Tony Golden and the nurses on the 4th floor of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday May 30, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby with Bishop Kevin Searle officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
