John Wayne Fowler

John W Fowler, 84, of American Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his home on November 14, 2025.

John was born in 1941 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and grew up in New Sweden. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School and served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

He met Patricia Radford through mutual friends, and their first date was a ski trip to Taylor Mountain on March 4, 1966. They were engaged on June 4, 1966, and married on November 19, 1966.

John attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, graduating from the Welding Department. He worked at FMC in American Falls for over thirty years.

John was known for his kindness, patience, and great sense of humor. He often broke into song while driving his children in his large brown Ford pickup, singing "Mercedes Benz" by Janis Joplin and "Sneaky Snake" by Tom T Hall. Having always wanted a son, he affectionately gave all his daughters boy nicknames—Amy was "Sam," Janet was "Fred," and Bonnie was "Bob."

An avid outdoorsman, John loved deer hunting, fishing, and camping. He taught the Hunter's Safety Program in American Falls for a number of years and volunteered as a leader for his son's Boy Scout troop, once taking teenage boys camping in five feet of snow for their winter

camping merit badge. He also volunteered for Girls Camp through the LDS Church, where he braved earwigs, snakes, and groups of teenage girls. He served in many volunteer positions at his church over the years.

John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat; daughters Amy Bradford, Janet Fowler, and Bonnie Parra; son Rick Fowler; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In the past 30 years, it has been rare to see John not holding one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, big grin, dedication to family and community, and love of the outdoors.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodruff 1st Ward building, 1660 12th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
