John William Hanson, 92, of Rigby, died Sunday, February 26, 2012, at The Gardens of Rigby.
He was born December 28, 1919 in Annis to Albert John Hanson and Ruby Hannah Smith Hanson. He was raised and attended schools in Annis, Idaho. On November 4, 1938, he married Donna Robison in Annis, Idaho. They moved to the state of Washington shortly after their marriage. He served in the US Navy from August 1944 to November 1945.
John worked at the AEC site (now called INEL) from 1951-1965. After leaving the site he and Donna owned a number of businesses, including Hanson's Self-Service Laundry, Dry Cleaning and Car Wash, and H &H Glass, both in Rigby. John operated the garbage collection in Jefferson County until it was turned over to the county. He served on the Jefferson County Zoning Commission and was actively involved in the political process in Jefferson County. John served as a Special Deputy Sheriff working with the Work Release Program. John was a loyal supporter of the VFW and was involved in numerous military services.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Richard) Pries, of Portland, Oregon, son, Terry Allen (Diana) Hanson, of Rigby, a sister, Bernetta Oliver, of Idaho Falls, 14 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Donna, to who he was married for 67 years, a son, Gary John Hanson, a grandson, David Duane Hanson, a sister, Velma Loulia Caukins, and brothers, Allen Hanson, Fabyn Hanson, and Vernon Hanson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, with Bishop Ronald Young, conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
