John Pete Olsen, 72 of Tetonia, Idaho died June 7th 2008 at his home. He was born October 30, 1935 in Ashton, Idaho to Julia Mellnee Bell and Leslie Rudolph Olsen. He grew up in Teton Valley.
His life revolved around his family and his horses. In the past 72 years there hasn’t been a mountain or stream between Salmon Idaho and the head of the Yellowstone or the wind rivers, he has not rode hunted or fished in. For many years he ran flat track and cutters. He started chariot racing when he was 16 years old and he’s made many life time friends. He had a love and passion for horses; he was inducted into the Eastern Idaho Horseman Hall of Fame this spring. He supported his grandsons in everything they did.
He Married Sharon Wylie August 17th 1963. He is survived by his wife Sharon of Tetonia, Two daughters Julia Ray (Scott) Wood of Driggs, Sandra Ione (Mitch) Hansen of Rigby, three grandsons J.D. Wood, Justin and Rhett Hansen. Three sisters Alese (Earl) Cantrell, Nita Penfold of Boise, and Willa Campbell of Boise. He was preceded in death by his Parents, one sister, two brothers, four brother in-laws and one granddaughter. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday June 10th 2008 at the Tetonia LDS Church; the family will receive friends on Monday June 9th, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, and Tuesday June 10th from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
