Joseph Elmo Andersen, 86, of Rigby, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at The Gables Assisted Living Home in Idaho Falls.
He was born January 18, 1922 at Rigby a son of Albert Andersen and Vida Esther Waters Andersen. He attended Clark and Rigby Schools. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 until 1946. He married June Niederer on March 5, 1945 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He farmed in the Clark area and worked at the Lincoln Sugar Factory. He was a member of the LDS Church serving as Elders Quorum President, in the Sunday School and was a High Priest. He enjoyed farming, fishing and the mountains and loved his grandkids.
He is survived by three daughters: Jolene (William) Hartleben of Menan, RaNell (Roy) Patterson of Aurora, Colorado, Lauren (Norman) Gunderson of Menan, five sons: Ronald (Tami) Andersen, LaMonte (Tina) Andersen and Vern Andersen all of Rigby, Rodney Andersen of Logan, Utah and DeMar (Susan) Andersen of Winnemucca, Nevada, one sister Donna Barney of Menan, four brothers: Calvin (Donna) Andersen of Rupert, Idaho, Austin Andersen of Huston, Texas, Harlow (Bonnie) Andersen of Nevada, Clive (Dana) Andersen of Florida, 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife June Andersen, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shelton Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Danny Ferguson officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery, Military Rites by Jefferson Veteran’s Team.
