Joseph Marden Sievers, known as Joe to those who worked with him, Marden to those who knew him outside of work, Scoutmaster to dozens of youth, Bishop to people in the ward he served, and husband, dad and Grandpa to the luckiest of all of us, graduated from his earthly life on March 26, 2026.
He was born in the Rigby Birthing Center to Joe and Lova Sievers, August 22, 1945 (as a youth he felt this birthday was unfair because he had to share his birthday with the grain harvest every year). He was the oldest sibling of seven children. He was raised on the family farm in Coltman, Idaho where he was taught by his parents the value of hard work.
After graduating from Bonneville High School, he attended Idaho State University vocational technical school prior to deciding to serve his Savior by spending two years in the Eastern States Mission where he learned the difference between Idaho big city and New York City big city. He loved serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and would talk about the people he met there and the experiences he had there often.
After returning from his mission, he made it a priority to win the love of his life from another man who made the mistake to be engaged to Myrna Johnson. This other guy was presumably devastated because Marden and Myrna were married July 7, 1967, in the Idaho Falls Temple and sealed for time and eternity.
Marden and Myrna settled east of Rigby in 1969 on a sink hole laden, rock patch that they called a farm. It wasn’t the best farm to grow crops, but it was a great place to raise their four children, Sheri, Gary, Eric and Joanna. The farm served its purpose of raising children but to provide for his family.
Marden was employed at the Naval Reactor Facility (NRF) for over 40 years. He often joked that he set some sort of record for the most time on a bus. He was proud of the work he did and enjoyed the relationships he had with his coworkers.
Throughout his life he enjoyed being outdoors. Camping, fishing, hunting, backpacking and what he called tromping were some of his favorite activities. He introduced his children and grandchildren to the same activities and was very happy when he was able to convince any of them to go with him for the day.
He could be described as a husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, friend, fisherman or gardener. But at his core and what he always strived to be is a disciple of Jesus Christ. He showed his dedication to his Savior by loving God and loving his neighbor.
His survivors include his wife, Myrna Sievers; his children Sheri (David) Black, Gary (Andrea) Sievers, Eric (Leisha) Sievers, and Joanna Trussel; as well as his siblings: Greg (Debbie) Sievers, John (LeeAnn) Sievers, Robert (Denise) Sievers, and Jolene (Leston) Drake.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lova Sievers, his sisters Virginia Asper and Karlene Loosli and his son in law Jed Trussel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 1 st , 2026, at the LDS Chapel, 4100 East 364 North Rigby Idaho. Family will visit with friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, at the church. Interment will follow at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
