Joseph Wiliam Sharp

Joseph William Sharp, age 91, of Grant, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Idaho Falls. Joseph was born August 18, 1912 at Bybee, Idaho a son of William and Mary Eliza Jones Sharp. He attended schools in Lewisville and Rigby and while in school drove the horse drawn buggy and sleigh to school picking up the other students along the way. He also cared for the horse during his lunch break. He married Jessie Gardner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple October 4, 1937 . He farmed in the Lewisville area for a short time. Joe went to work as a finish carpenter and spent most of his life working in surrounding area building many construction projects. He also built much of his own furniture for his home such as hutches, book cases and cabinets. He also built the cabinet that holds the Filo Farnsworth T.V. Tube at the Museum in Rigby. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the Spanish American mission for the church. He loved working with and caring for the Spanish people locally, serving 3 Spanish speaking missions for the Menan Stake. Music was a very important part of his life singing with a Barber Shop Group in Idaho Falls and playing the piano and violin. He was a avid artist, was member of the Rigby Art Guild and displayed his art in local banks. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting rocks and building jewelry from the rocks he found. Survivors include: his wife Jessie Gardner, 2 daughters, JoAnn (Jared) Murray of Rigby and Merna (Thomas) Summers of Pocatello, 1 son Marvin (Patsy) Sharp of Lyman, Wyoming, 3 brothers Merrill J. Sharp of Salt Lake City, Alvin Sharp of Rigby and Steven (Hazel) Saharp of Roseberg, Oregon, 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Ivan Sharp, 1 sister Verla Schnieder, 1 grandson and 1 great grandson. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grant 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Alan Batt officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Friday from 11:30 a.m.to 12:45 p.m. at the Grand 1st Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Grand Central Cemetery.
