Joseph Sherwood Jr., age 77 of Rigby, died at Pine Brook Assisted Living Center in Rigby Sunday, June 17, 2007.
Joseph was born August 31, 1929 at Heman, Idaho, a son of Joseph Sherwood Sr. and Thelma Smith Sherwood. He attended schools in the West Yellowstone and Idaho Falls area. In 1952 he married Carol Joy Cousin, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1976, and in 1991 Joy passed away. Joseph married Darlene Taysom in 1992, they were later divorced. In 2000 he married Verda Thomas, and in 2004, she passed away. Susanne Tippetts and Joseph were married in 2004. Joseph worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in the 1960’s as a flight inspector for the Apollo Program. In the late 1960’s he moved to Idaho Falls and opened the first Sizzler Restaurant in Idaho Falls. Later he was an insurance salesman and owned and operated a home insulation business.
Joseph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he had a beautiful tenor voice, enjoyed singing and often performed for church functions, weddings and funerals.
Joseph is survived by his wife Susanne, twin sons; Joe Sherwood Jr. and Jon Sherwood, both of Idaho Falls, a daughter, Janna Sherwood of Boise, two sisters; Carol Wray of Boise and Shirley Kawamura of Chubbuck, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Brent Sherwood, and Gerald Sherwood, his twin.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Rigby East Stake Center, with Bishop Brett Olaveson, officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and Saturday for one hour prior to service, at the Church. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
