Joseph Everett Snyder, 78, of Pocatello, died Monday, August 9, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was born February 15, 1932, in Georgetown, Idaho to Naomi Martha Larsen Snyder and Robert Clarence Snyder. During his youth, he grew up in Georgetown, Pocatello and Rockford, and graduated from Snake River High School. He then served in the US Air Force as a Radio Repairman and Pilot during the Korean Conflict. On December 23, 1953, he married Deon Elizabeth Smithies in Rigby, Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Throughout his life he has lived in Hamer, farming and ranching for Grovers. In 1964 he moved to the Shelley area where he worked at the Fielding Feedlot for 10 years and later as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Bingham County Road and Bridge; and shoeing horses as a sideline passion. He retired to take care of Deon until her death in 1998. After retirement, he enjoyed working with livestock at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
In June 2004, he married Irene Jensen in Pocatello; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He and Irene lived in Pocatello, wintering in Overton, Nevada. They enjoyed traveling together down the Pacific Coast, river rides on Hells Canyon, family trips to Red Fish Lake, and fun trips to Mexico, as well as seeing their family.
Joseph was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served as a Scoutmaster, Primary Teacher, and served in the Elders Quorum and High Priest Group leadership. In addition, he and Irene served a 6-month LDS service mission in the Pocatello area.
Joseph loved his dogs, Pepi and Kara, riding his horses and taking care of his farm animals. Some will remember “horse and buggy” rides. He also had a love for gardening, which he would share in large abundance with his family, neighbors and friends every year. Another favorite past time was getting together with his family and relatives every summer for the Snyder family reunions; and family vacations to Washington, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, California, Canada and the Black Hills.
