Joy Ilene Kinghorn

April 17, 1937 — November 2, 2013

Joy Ilene Freeman Kinghorn, 76, of Ririe passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at her home. She was born April 17, 1937 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the second daughter born to Ralph and Donna Freeman. She attended Ririe Elementary and Ririe High School, graduating with honors. She continued her education at Ricks College where she completed a secretary course, then was hired at the Atomic Energy Site near Arco. Joy married her teenage sweetheart, W. Durell Kinghorn, on October 19, 1956 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was her best friend and confidant and she loved him very much. They are the parents of nine children. Joy and her family have lived in many states, which have included Idaho, Utah, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Ohio, and Hawaii. Joy returned to school while in Hawaii and began working on a degree in Special Education. She finished her degree at Idaho State University. She taught at Sugar City School District. Joy had an amazing talent for working with youth. She loved the youth and the youth that were lucky enough to work with her knew it. Joy and Durell served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Bacolod Philippines Mission. This was a wonderful experience for Joy. She has always been a source of strength to those around her with her unfailing testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We love her dearly! She is survived by her husband, Durell Kinghorn, children; Curt (Audrey) Kinghorn, Craig (Julie) Kinghorn, Laurel (David) Ransom, Paul (Jennifer) Kinghorn, Diane (Rich) Thornock, Kevin (Sandi) Kinghorn, Michael (Andrea) Kinghorn, Angie Monroe, Susie Kinghorn, sisters; Shyrl (Joe) Bitsoi, Iris (David) Cook, brother; Lyle (Evelyn) Freeman, 42 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Ririe Stake Center with Bishop Darren Lewis conducting. The family has chosen, at Joy’s request, not to have a visitation. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
