Joyce Nelson Allred, 81, of Rigby died Thursday, January 05, 2012 at her home.
She was born August 8, 1930 in Rexburg, to Ferrel A. Nelson and Chloe Hanks Nelson. She was raised in Rexburg, attended Washington Elementary, and graduated from Madison High School. She continued her education at Ricks College, Brigham Young University then graduated from Utah State University in 1970 with Bachelors Degree in education. On October 25, 1950 she married John “Jack” Fredrick Allred in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union they added 5 children. Joyce taught Science and Biology for 20 years at Rigby Jr. High, Roberts Middle School, and Kinghorn Elementary.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including; Blazer Scout Leader, as Rigby Stake Camp Director, on the Stake Relief Society Board at Ricks College, and she served a mission to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in SLC. Joyce enjoyed traveling, teaching, and often expressed her love and appreciation for her 7th grade students.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Dennis) Jorgensen, of Peoa, Utah, Peggy (Chad Kerry) Jensen, of Rigby, John Kevin (Shonna) Allred, of Rigby, Eric (Toni) Allred, of Riverton, Utah, Matthew (Lori) Allred of Idaho Falls, brother, P. Keith (Twila) Nelson, of SLC, Utah, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and an additional 5 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Garth Nelson and a grandson, Jonathan Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Rigby Stake Center, 258 West 1st North, Rigby. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family of Joyce expresses their appreciation to Dr. Alan Avondet in Idaho Falls and to Yellowstone Dialysis Center in Rexburg for their compassionate service.
