Joyce Walker Marriott

Joyce Walker Marriott, passed away at her home in Rigby Tuesday June 2nd 2015 with her family present. Joyce was born in Grant, Idaho July 22, 1930 a daughter to Mayor “Mike” Walker and Maple Irene Rapp Walker. She attended Lewisville Grade School, Midway Junior High School and graduated from Roberts High School. She then attended Ricks College and finished her education graduating from Utah State University. On August 18th 1950 she married George F. Marriott in Lewisville, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple January 26, 1963. Joyce worked for her parents on the farm in Lewisville and later at Roberts Hotel Café & Bar. While George was in the service, she worked for her parents at the Walkers Café in Rigby. She taught school for Jefferson School district 251 for 25 years. She was active in the PTA and served as program chairman. She was a charter member of the Jay C-Ettes and served as president for 2 years. As a member of the American Legion Auxiliary she served as chairman of Girls State. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and served as president. She was a 4H leader and judged county and state fairs. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader. She was active in the Republican Women. She was campaign coordinator for Senator Steve Symms campaign in 1980. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in the Primary, Young Women organization in the ward and stake Relief Society and at Ricks College. She also served with her husband in the Idaho Falls Temple for 11 years. She is survived by her husband George Marriott of Rigby; three daughters: Tanis Jo Marriott (Riley) Barney of Tucson, Arizona; Jorja Lei Marriott (Robert) Shippen of Rigby; and Diana Marriott (Carter) Wright of Boulder, Colorado; a son Rodney G. Marriott M.D. of Big Fork, Montana; two brothers: Clyde (Alice) Walker of Orem, Utah; and Newell (Caroll) Walker of Idaho Falls; two sisters-in-law Pat Walker of Rigby; and Lola Walker of Rexburg; 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Susan Kay Marriott R.N.; a sister Donna Walker French; two brothers: Gail Walker; and Doyle Walker. We truly appreciate the care and compassion given to Joyce by Aspen Home Health and Hospice. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5th 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rigby Idaho LDS Stake Center 258 West 1st North, Rigby. The family will visit with friends at the Rigby Stake Center, Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
