J.T. Jones

Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Jones passed away peacefully, May 4, 2014, at the Rexburg Care Center. J.T. was born August 21, 1933, to Joseph Thomas Jones and Verna Randall Jones. He grew up and attended schools in Rexburg, Idaho, Graduating from Madison High School in 1951. He met Carol Galbraith when he was a senior and she was a freshman in High School. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on February 19, 1954. He was drafted into the Army one month later, serving in Fort Ord, California, then El Paso, Texas. Spending the last ten months in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the army in 1956, he came home and began farming his 32 acres of ground on the south side of the Dry Bed River. Where they still reside today. Over the years he has purchased neighboring farms, including much of the original Joseph Wilford Jones Homestead. Which qualified him as one of Jefferson Counties Century Farmers in 1990. Farming eventually became his main occupation. J.T. became a well-known builder/Contractor in the area. He was known for his craftsmanship and perfection. He was also well known for his fleet of Ford cars, pick-ups, trucks and Tractors.   If it wasn’t a Ford it wasn’t worth driving. In 1960 he purchased 80 acres of pasture up by Canyon Creek. He built a one room shack. It was his favorite place to get away and to take the family. We have had a lot of fun family get togethers at the Shack. J.T. and Carol were blessed with two daughters, Jacqueline and Jennifer. He loved his girls, and loved his Grandchildren even more. He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church callings. He was a Stake Missionary, Ward clerk for two bishoprics and Stake clerk for three Stake Presidents. J.T. is survived by, his wife of 60 years, Carol; daughter’s Jacqueline (Jim) Kolbet of Idaho Falls and Jennifer (Harold) Prince of Centerville, UT. Sisters: Cleo Johnson and Eileen (Robert) Powell both of Rexburg; Brothers: Robert Jones of Idaho Falls, and Clyde (Helen) Jones of Menan. Seven Grandchildren: Katie (Ash) Larsen of Farmington, UT, J.T. Prince, Kara Prince, and Kasey Prince of Centerville, UT, Korey Kolbet, Alex Kolbet, and Taylor Kolbet all of Idaho Falls. One Great Grandchild: Marcus Kolbet-Rodriguez and a Great Grandchild on the way. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by, his parents, a sister Phyllis, brother-in-law Gerald O. Johnson, two half sisters Alberta (Lorin) Muir, Mabel (Charles) Valentine and sister-in-law Barbara Jones.A viewing will be held Thursday, May 8th, from 7 p.m. To 8:30 p.m., at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, Rigby, ID. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 9th, at 11:00 a.m.; with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the Lewisville church. Interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
