Karen Sue Keating

January 11, 1943 — October 18, 2018

Karen Sue Keating was born in Marysville, Kansas to Phillip and Hilda Gloshen on January 11, 1943. Karen grew up in Wichita with her brothers, Phillip, David and Vallis, sister, Roxanne, and father, Connie Weber.

Karen met and married Jack Beardsley in 1958, they had 5 children, Rovilla “Rover”, Jack, Mark, Joey and Roxanne. Roxanne passed away in 2004.  Jack and Karen later divorced.  In 1972, Karen moved herself and 5 children to Del Rio, Texas for a job at Kay Electric for a better life.  Unfortunately, things didn’t work out and this caused huge turmoil in her life. Karen and Rover moved to Carlsbad New Mexico where she started a new career for Boone Loggin as a mud logger in the oil fields.  This was her passion, she loved everything about rocks.  Later, she would start her own Logging company; Keating Loggin.  On January 22, 1982, Karen married the love of her life; Harlin Keating, in Loving, New Mexico, they bought a 12-acre farm in Roswell, New Mexico and started their life together.  Not long after, a baby boy was adopted; Chris “Lucky” Keating.  Karen, Harlin and Lucky spent all their extra time at the Mountain Man Rendezvous.  It was at one of these rendezvous that Karen won biggest Liar Award for a story that was 100% true!  1993 found Karen, Harlin and Lucky moving to Grants, New Mexico.  She loved playing in her flower gardens, hunting, fishing, camping, shooting guns, throwing knifes and tomahawks and riding Harley Motorcycles.  Karen loved music and passed that love on to her children.  In addition to music, Karen loved to dance; and she could dance like no other.  In 1990 she retired from mudd loggin and started playing the guitar.  In 2000 Harlin became ill and decided Karen needed to be closer to Rover, so he moved his family to Idaho Falls.  In 2001 Harlin lost his battle with cancer.

Halloween was on of Karen’s favorite holidays. She loved dressing up and scaring all the kids.  A lot of Ririe children will always remember this!  Karen could tell one scary story and would often recite “The Things in the Trees” around the campfire.  In 2004 Karen went to work for Sharon Winder at the Pastime Club where many knew her as “Granny”.

Karen’s most prized possession was her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them to dance classes, going to The Wizard of Oz Play, Festival of Trees Chorus, kindergarten graduations, and more; she always tried to make it to every event.

Karen began losing her eye sight and thus moved in with Rover, where she died peacefully in her sleep on October 18, 2018.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Harlin Keating, father, Phillp Gloshen, mother, Hilda Weber, brother Phillip (Flo) Gloshen, brother Vallis (Irene) Weber, daughter, Roxanne Mobbley and 2 grandchildren, Troy and Jaquilynn Rose.

She is survived by her father, Connie Weber, brother, David (Margret) Weber, sister, Roxanne (Wayne) Childress, daughter, Rovilla “Rover” Guymon, sons, Jack Beardsley, Mark (Bev) Beardsley, Joey (Cindi) Beardsley, Chris “Lucky” (Ashley) Keating, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
