Karen Elizabeth Popien, age 59 of Rigby, Idaho formerly of Tooele, Utah passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at her home.
She was born December 31, 1956 in Tooele, Utah to Neil Richards and Arlene Elizabeth James Richards. She was raised and attended schools in Tooele.
On June 24, 1979, she married George R. Popien in Logan, Utah. They were blessed with 2 daughters; Lesley and Melanie.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Karen worked as a bookkeeper and stock trader. From 1992-2003, she worked in the computer lab at Rigby High School; she was known by the students as Mrs. Popien. She enjoyed camping at No Tell’em Lake, spending time with her family and loved being a grandmother. Her family meant everything to her.
Karen is survived by her husband, George Popien, of Rigby, daughters, Lesley (Aaron) Ziel, of Idaho Falls, Dr. Melanie (Todd) Clark, of Ammon, sister, Pamela (Dan) Kennaley, of Bountiful, Utah, brothers, James (Shauna) Richards, of West Valley City, Utah, Neil (Collette) Richards Jr., of Fort Wayne, Indiana and 3 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Arlene Richards.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby.
