Karol Ida Lufkin

Karol Ida King Lufkin, 70, of Covington, Washington, died peacefully November 18, 2011, in St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. She was born May 15, 1941 to Lyle Henry and Vanita Chugg King. Karol lived in Roy, Utah for eight years and then moved to Fielding, Utah when her mother married Virgil Coombs. She attended schools in Fielding and graduated from Bear River High School. Following High School she went to work for Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Brigham City, Utah. Karol met Bryan Townsend Lufkin at Thiokol and they were married and sealed on July 1, 1960 in the Logan LDS Temple. She lived in Logan, Utah; Brigham City, Utah; Huntsville, Alabama; Bellevue, Washington; Dayton, Ohio and Covington, Washington. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many capacities during her life including a mission in the Family History Center in Auburn, Washington with her husband. She was gifted with a skill in candy making which provided her family and friends with sweets better than you could buy. She spent many years in scouting in the Cub Scouts and later as the Boy Scout Troop’s Advancement Chairman and many young men including her four sons became Eagle Scouts, pleasing her greatly. She was an ardent quilter tying quilts for her family and others as the families grew, and later adding embroidering to the quilts she made. She enjoyed crafts and cooking, teaching classes in both – a blessing to many. She is survived by her husband, Bryan Townsend Lufkin; her brother Karl King of Fielding, Utah; sisters Sallie (Gary) Grigg of Moses Lake, Washington and Janet Coombs of Collinston, Utah; her daughters , Susan Weaver of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Nancy (Scott) Payne of Kent, Washington, and Lana (David) Spice of Lehi, Utah; and her sons James (Laurie) Lufkin of Puyallup, Washington, Michael (Jen) Lufkin of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, Thomas (Violet) Lufkin of Orange, California, and John (Rachel) Lufkin of Woods Cross, Utah; 23 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Bruce King, and a grandson, Stefan Weaver. Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m. November 23, 2011, at the LDS Kent Washington Stake Chapel, 12817 SE 256th Street, Kent, Washington with Eric Lofgran officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the services at the church. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Menan LDS Stake Center. Burial will be at the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
