Kathy Ann Ryan

March 17, 1961 — January 11, 2025

Kathy Ann Ryan, a beloved dog breeder specializing in Shetland Sheepdogs, passed away on January 11, 2025. She was known for her expertise in breeding and showing champion dogs. Kathy was also a certified AKC judge for herding dogs. Kathy was born on March 17,1961, and had a strong passion for canines throughout her life. Kathy also was known for being uniquely humble and not concerned with a need for materialistic possessions. She felt deeply that the most beautiful things in life are not things but people, animals, places and memories.

Kathy’s career as a dog breeder and AKC judge brought her much joy and fulfillment. She dedicated countless hours to caring for her furry companions, ensuring they were always in perfect condition. Her love for dogs was unparalleled, and she often joked that she loved them more than humans. Kathy’s commitment to the well-being of her precious animals touched the lives of many.

Kathy’s love for dogs began in childhood and continued throughout her life. She was lucky enough to live her life doing what she loved. Her passion and compassion for animals blossomed into a lifelong career. One of Kathy’s proudest moments was being nominated by her ASSA colleagues to judge the 2027 Nationals, and raising her pride and joy Champion dog Juliana.

Kathy was a kindhearted person who gave to others without a second thought. She was loved by all of those who she knew. Kathy’s life passion was breeding Shelties and her legacy will live on in the lives of her dogs. We all know that Kathy will be watching from above and checking in on her dogs. Her dogs were not just pets but treasured members of her family. She accepted and appreciated each pet’s unique personalities and would talk about each pet as one would talk about a beloved family member. Kathy’s took pride in keeping her breeding program small, and many of her customers also became close friends. Her dogs were part of her business but also her companions. Kathy will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her throughout the years.

She is survived by her brother John F. Ryan III of Norwood MA, niece Erin J. Ryan of Norwood MA, nephew John F. Ryan IV of Norwood MA, sister-in-law Eileen M. Ryan of Norwood MA, and by her extended family and dear friends including Debi Tario, Paul Capobianco, Lynn Thibodeau, Kate Strother and countless more. She was honored to be a part of such a supportive group of friends.

Preceding Kathy in death are her parents John F. Ryan II and Joyce E. Ryan, and her dear Aunt Patricia Bestwick. She held dear memories of her loved ones and cherished the time she spent with them. Kathy’s proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly her success in breeding champion dogs. Her dedication and expertise in this realm brought pride to both herself and the Sheltie community. Her impact on the dog breeding world will not be forgotten. Kathy Ryan’s vibrant spirit, love for animals, and strong-willed nature will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her parents, Aunt and her beloved pets that passed over the Rainbow Bridge.
