Kay Lynn Howard, age 65 passed away May 1, 2007 at his home in Lyman surrounded by his loving family. Kay was born September 19, 1941 in Teton City to Cleo John and Sarah Alta Hansen Howard.
He grew up in Teton City attending Teton Elementary. He graduated from South Fremont High School in 1959.
During the Vietnam War he enlisted in the Army Nation Guard. He served as Staff Sergeant for the United States Army, 116th Combat Engineers. He was honorably discharged from the Army. He married Vickie Miller. To this union a son was born, Brett Lee. They later divorced.
He married the love of his life, LaRue Klingler Howard, September 23, 1966. They were blessed with two daughters, Shantell and Nikki.
They made their home in Lyman. Kay was employed for the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in 2002 as a Foreman of the Bridge and Building Crew.
He was a Charter Member of the Pioneer Cutter Assoc., the Upper Valley Cutter Assoc., the Upper Valley Wranglers, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His many hobbies were woodworking, cutter racing, horse racing, picking huckle berries, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, throwing horse shoes, and pickling eggs.
His most special times were spent with his wife, kids, and grandkids fishing, camping and telling stories. He enjoyed watching his girls rodeo, play baseball and supported them in all their activities. He loved to watch his grandsons wrestle, play baseball, football, ride horses, and ride motorcycles.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick with a smile. He was ambitious and always took pride in his work. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, LaRue Howard, son Brett (Brenda) Welker of Pocatello, daughters, Shantell (Ryan) Hart of Rexburg, Nikki (Steve) Robison of Rigby, seven grandkids, Rusty and Kade Robison, Brodey, Braxton, Britton, Bregen and Brecklyne Hart, Mother-in-law, Cleo Klingler, two sisters, Carole (Gary) Owens, and Gaye (Donlee) Hathaway, His special niece, Diana Rowland and his special nephew, Curt Howard. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Sharen Edgington, and his Father-in-Law, Von Klingler, his nephew, Randy Bauer, and his uncle, Grant Howard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Bishop Dan Petersen, officiating. The family will meet with friends Thursday, from 7 – 8:30 p.m., and on Friday, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
